Tonight I attended the Science and Technology Committee inquiry forum on the impact of screen use on mental health with social media and energy drinks.
My 10 year old daughter also attended – It was extremely interesting hearing other people’s perspective and speaking with MPs about their thoughts.
Social media is something that we should be educating young people on the positive aspects of networking with friends new, old and displaying things that happen in your life that you want to remember. It is not for displaying your inner most thoughts and feelings….
Would you know what to do if your child was bullied on social media?
Are there enough controls in place?
I will be interested to see how this inquiry progresses and whether any changes are put in place – In our group we wanted to see more education being offered. I have been very fortunate to spend my career in technology so am happy about what Isabel does online but what if I didnt? Where would I get advice or training?
What happens to those kids who come home from school close the door and stay in their rooms all night playing games or being on social media. Are there detrimental effects on them?
I would be interested to hear other peoples thoughts on these topics…..
